Mediterranean Marvels - 2024 In Review

Introducing our 2024 New Season Oil Collection + Award Wins

October 2024

We’re extremely proud to be celebrating our 26th Harvest at the farm and to present Olio Bello’s 2024 New Season Oil Collection, along with announcing 3 Silver Medal Award Wins (from 3 entries only), at the recent WA Olive Awards. These include: Arbequina, Romanza and Kurunba.

Needless to say, against the backdrop of an extreme 7-month drought, even we were surprised by the resilience of our olive trees. This, when coupled with the global olive oil crisis, resulted in challenging times for both the farm and the entire olive oil industry.

Against the odds, however, the trees didn’t let us down and we were still able to produce premium quality fruit- despite the total lack of rain and reduced irrigation schedule.

We might be oceans apart from the original home of the olive trees, but the combination of our Mediterranean-style climate and gravelly loam soils - find the two locations intrinsically linked with ideal growing conditions. Our trees are extremely tough and tolerant, even on the other side of the world.

This year, despite a lower crop, we were pleased to still see record oil yields, meaning that we have a full range of estate oils available. The 2024 collection reflects high quality, well textured and flavoursome oils from our ‘traditional Mediterranean varieties’ across the farm.

These include some true ‘marvels with each bringing their own unique varietal and blended flair from Italy, Greece, Spain and France.

This featured our Kalamata, Arbequina, Corregiola and WA Mission, which were showcased in their raw and unfiltered state (Olio Nuovo), before the settling process and demonstrated the purest form of olive oil, rich in antioxidants and both medicinal and culinary value. The Limited Release of 400 bottles, sold out in record speed time, making it one of our biggest online releases, in the farm’s history.

Community Pressing

Olio Bello continued its long-standing commitment to the local community in pressing for local growers, across the region in 2024.. As in previous years, Olio Bello pressed around 200 tonnes of olives, for external local growers during the season - which equates to over 35,000 litres of oil.

We congratulate all local growers production of outstanding olive oils against such challenging conditions of drought and global impacts of the 2024 season. We truly value the strong collegiate spirit of the olive oil industry in Western Australia

 OIL MAKER'S PICK

"This year, my personal favourite has to be the Kalamata for its strong, robust flavours, slightly spicy undertones and strong peppery finish! A close runner up is the Kurunba  a more delicate blend, ideal for all tastes."

Enjoy !
